The River Arts District Brewing Company (RAD Brewing Co.)

This project reflects a core Red House ethos: working with existing structures rather than replacing them. The building began as a century-old stonecutter’s workshop operated by Samuel Isaac Bean, a craftsman who opened up a shop in Asheville after working on the construction of the Biltmore Estate. His work can be identified in several other iconic buildings in Asheville. Rather than erase that legacy, through selective rehabilitation and adaptive reuse, a modest utilitarian workshop has been reimagined as a contemporary gathering space and small brew facility—where the legacy of craft continues to inform the experience of the architecture.
